Public WiFi Risks

Reasons to avoid using public WiFi

When connecting to WiFi in public places such as cafes and airports, the risks you take are often too significant to make the benefits worthwhile. A public WiFi network is inherently less secure than your personal or private one because you don’t know who set it up or who else is connecting to it; concerns include:
·        Misuse of personal information, data breach and identity theft
·        Malware infection
·        Insecure connection
·        Online attacks on business
·        Eavesdropping or packet sniffing

Hackers or anyone with sound knowledge about WiFi technology can eavesdrop on your data if they are using the same public WiFi connection as you:
·        Do not share personal data while you are using a personal WiFi connection
·        Avoid logging in to websites that involve your personal or bank credentials
·        Use a VPN (Virtual Private Network) service that will help you to encrypt all the data you receive or send
·        Use 2-Factor authorisations that will make your connection secure and prevent the risk of data loss
·        Turn off Bluetooth and file-sharing
·        Use antivirus and enable firewall
